In life, there will always be a time when we go through ups and downs and we experience our fair share of failures and victories. As the saying goes, “one gets wiser as one gets older.”
At 78 years old, Abbe “DieHardBirdie” Borg had his share of wins and losses. His experiences as a father, a grandfather, and recently as an eSports senior champion on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) allowed him to gain wisdom that shaped his outlook in life through the years.
Here are 7 lessons that inspire and guide Abbe “DieHardBirdie” in living a good life:
1. “Small changes eventually add up to huge results.
If you think about it, the mountains are made up of just tiny grains of soil. And the oceans are made of tiny drops of water. Celebrate the small changes, one day it will add up to something huge. Just you wait.
2. “A gentleman knows his actions carry more weight than any words spoken.
Actions speak louder than words. Our actions show our real attitude rather than what we say. This phrase is used to get our actions to line up with our words. It reminds us to lead by example, to love not just with words or with tongue, but in deed and truth, and to do what we promised to do. What we do has more significance than what we say. So, let’s just do it.
3. “Give up negative thinking.”
Let us be vigilant with our thoughts. Negative thinking dampens our enthusiasm and motivation. It makes us indecisive and derails us from our goals. It defeats us. And beats us. Most of the things that we are afraid of are just in our minds. Push away negative thinking. Recognize it, stop it, counter it with positivity that is based on truth. Let us make it a conscious effort to push forward one true thought in the frontline of our consciousness.
4. “Straight roads do not make skillful drivers.”
The difficulties you face in life are not there to ruin you but to let you know how strong you are. Adversity fosters resilience and people who have faced difficulties are better able to handle the curveballs that life throws at them.
5. “You are a product of your decisions.
Our lives are made up of never-ending choices. Most decisions may be small and only impactful to an extent and some are big and tough and can change your life forever. Rather than tarry in fear of making wrong choices, weigh your alternatives, and act on the best one. Just think about how you get the chance to build the life you want to live!
6. “What you have done is nothing compared to what you can do.”
Never rest on your laurels. You have the capacity to do more and win more. What you have accomplished is nothing compared to what you can achieve in the future. So, don’t stop after your first few achievements. Keep tapping your innate power
7. “Be the energy you want to attract.
We attract who we are. Love attracts love. Passion attracts passion. A positive mindset helps you cope with life’s twists and turns. If you adopt positivity as a way of life, it would bring changes into your life, it would make you happier, brighter, and more successful. So be the energy you want to attract!
Growth and progress come with time, patience, and effort. Abbe “DieHardBirdie” once said that in life, we should treat failure and setbacks not as impossible hurdles but as tools and lessons for us to get better in life.
