DieHardBirdie, the 78-year-old pro gamer, talks about his esports experience with Silver Snipers in a new video

Abbe “DieHardBirdie” Borg appeared in the Off Beat episode of theScore Esports on YouTube released in early November and now has gained almost half a million views. The 78-year-old gaming champion and former Silver Snipers member talked about his esports journey with theScore’s Dimitri Pascaluta.
The episode highlighted competitive senior gamers such as DieHardBirdie and members of the Silver Snipers and their journey from being newbies to becoming the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) 2019 DreamHack senior division world champions. It also featured the longstanding CS:GO seniors rivalry between Sweden’s Silver Snipers and Finland’s very own team, the Grey Gunners.
“I was killed many times. Everybody was killed many times before it was possible to win. If you lose, you can teach yourself about your mistakes,” Abbe said about learning the basics of CS:GO with his team.
The video’s host Dimitri Pascaluta said, “Thanks to the Silver Snipers, there’s far less reason to dismiss the possibility of getting older generations interested in esports.”
In an earlier statement, Abbe “DieHardBirdie” Borg expressed his support in the fight against ageism and sexism in the esports community. DieHardBirdie has been actively streaming his games on his Twitch channel after retiring from Silver Snipers.
“I’d like to say for the old people, just find some guts to wake up the spirits, and ask your children or grandchildren to help you. This is very good for coordination, communication between all generations,” Abbe said.
